Student Success Story: Natasha Pooran

In Fall 2024, I began my first practicum experience as a therapist with Texas Woman’s University Counseling and Psychological Services (TWU CAPS). My favorite part of this internship has been working directly with clients. In my undergraduate studies and the first two years of graduate school, I focused on theory and background knowledge without much hands-on application. It is rewarding to finally put my learning into practice while continuing to grow and gain new insights. I am developing core therapeutic microskills such as active listening and empathy, while regularly refining my case conceptualization and techniques. This experience has been foundational in my journey toward becoming a psychologist, building my confidence to support positive client outcomes. As a first-generation student navigating higher education with limited financial resources, support from the Urban Fellows Program has been incredibly meaningful and deeply appreciated. -Natasha Pooran
