The Next Mile Scholarship is a $500 scholarship designed to help Texas Woman’s University students overcome transportation barriers that may impact their ability to attend classes, participate in internships, and successfully complete their educational and career goals. Whether assistance is needed for fuel, vehicle maintenance, public transportation, parking, or other transportation-related expenses, this scholarship provides critical support to help students stay on the path to graduation and career success.
This scholarship is available to eligible TWU students, including those completing internships as part of their academic and professional development. By reducing transportation-related financial burdens, The Next Mile Scholarship helps ensure students can access valuable educational and experiential learning opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 9 credit hours as a graduate student.
- during the fall and/or spring semester.
- Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Have a minimum semester GPA of 2.25.
- Be participating in, or preparing to participate in, an internship or other approved experiential learning opportunity.
Award Amount
- One-time award of $500 to assist with transportation-related expenses.
Scholarships will be funded at the start of a student’s internship. Incompletion of the internship will result in the recipient having the amount taken out of their financial aid. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed by recipients and committee members. More information will be available to recipients during any Scholarship onboarding seminar.

Scholarship recipients will be notified via email within one week after applications close. If you have not received an email within two weeks after the application close date, you unfortunately did not receive the scholarship.
The fall application period is during the second and third weeks of the semester. The spring application period is during the second and third weeks of the semester. And summer applications will be open in the first week of the summer semester. Awards are for the same semester you are applying to and completing your internship during.
