Part-Time Job Expires May 29, 2021

Start Date: June 3, 2021

Salary: $1,500

Get your summer off to a great start by working at Camp Waldo, a three-week overnight summer camp in southern West Virginia. If you have experience working with children or in nature, this could be the perfect job for you. Camp Waldo is a fun summer camp on the banks of the Greenbrier River in Summers County, West Virginia. Our camp combines fun and adventure with learning and the arts. Our goal is to give kids in our region a fun experience learning, becoming more self-reliant, and playing in nature. We are looking for college students to join us for one week of orientation and three weeks of camp, July 10-31, 2021. We are paying staff $1500, plus providing all meals and housing. There are also opportunities for counselors to receive internship opportunities either prior or before camp in areas such as beekeeping, native plant horticulture, and sustainable agriculture.

Our three-week residential summer camp will serve roughly 130 children grades third through sixth primarily from southern West Virginia. Counselors are responsible for providing supervision, guidance, support and leadership to the campers in his/her cabin. As the camper’s primary caregiver during their three-week stay, counselors must be attentive to the camper’s physical, emotional and social needs. Counselors should be fun-loving, kid-friendly, open-minded, patient, flexible, willing to learn, mature and compassionate. We are looking for outstanding role models to inspire and mentor our campers. Camp Waldo will have all the fun of a traditional summer camp — swimming and canoeing in the Greenbrier River, camping, art, music, hiking, archery, basketball, volleyball, disc golf, soccer and other games. Campers will also enjoy some of our camp’s unique activities, like beekeeping, vegetable gardening, native plant propagation, astronomy, reading and writing stories, ecology, theater and time in our science lab.

Camp Waldo is hosted by Appalachian Headwaters, a nonprofit organized to create a sustainable economy, restore our natural resources and strengthen communities throughout central Appalachia. We have programs in reforestation of mined lands, beekeeping science, native plant horticulture, and economic development. Learn more at www.appheadwaters.org.
