Research/Fellowship Expires January 30, 2021

The Practicum Training Program at Comprehensive Psychological & Assessment Services (CPAS) is provided for graduate-level psychology and social work students who are at a beginning to advanced level in their training as service providers. Students receive rigorous training in completing assessments (Social Security Disability, Mental Status Examinations, Learning Disability/Gifted, Neuropsychological, Forensic etc.) and in providing counseling services using various therapeutic techniques. In addition, students receive training in program development, community presentation skills and interacting with insurances. Students from university-based counseling and clinical psychology and social work programs are invited to apply. Practicum counselors might also work to some degree with health profession providers such as social workers, case managers and faculty/professionals of the general community.

Professional skills training will vary in complexity from basic engagement skills to more complex multi-level interventions depending on the individual practicum counselor. The training model is based on growth and adaptation through progressive increases in challenge and demand throughout the semester(s).

1. What are the skills gained and/or learning objectives of the internship? Students will receive training in completing mental status evaluations and intake sessions, and in providing individual and group therapy services to adults, adolescents and children. Qualified students will also receive training in administering various psychological assessments and report writing .

2. What is the duration of the internship (how long will it last)? The internship is 12 months in length. Students work 20 hours weekly. Office hours are M-F 8-5.

3. Who will supervise the intern? Does that individual(s) have expertise in the area of the internship? Students are supervised by licensed doctorate level and masters level clinicians who are qualified supervisors.

4. How will the student receive feedback on their performance? Weekly supervision and written feedback based on agreed upon performance expectations. Students receive school credit
