The Opportunity: Why Top Instructors Choose Us

Most music schools treat teachers like disposable contractors. We treat ours like partners. We are looking for an “A-Player” Piano Instructor—someone who refuses to just “go through the motions” of a lesson book.

We respect your craft and your time. Unlike most studios, we offer:

  • Cancellation Protection: You get paid even if the student cancels.
  • Retainer Time: We pay 50% compensation for scheduling gaps—we don’t believe you should suffer over scheduling logistics.
  • Autonomy: Flexible scheduling and space to expand your teaching skills.

Who You Are

You are not just a pianist; you are a mentor. You have a teaching range that spans Pop, Rock, Jazz, and Classical. You have a high emotional IQ and can adapt your teaching style to a neurodivergent 7-year-old just as easily as an ambitious teenager. You understand the importance of student connection, and that a music teacher’s impact goes far beyond the notes.

You are the right fit if:

  • You have a track record of retention. Your students stick with you because they make measurable progress and enjoy the process.
  • You are versatile. You don’t look down on modern genres; you use them to hook students into music theory.
  • You take ownership. You view the relationship with the parents as a partnership, communicating proactively rather than waiting for problems to arise.

Performance Objectives

  • Curriculum Mastery: Customize lesson plans that blend curriculum standards with the student’s personal musical interests (Pop/Rock/Jazz/Classical).
  • Recital Readiness: Prepare students to perform confidently in seasonal recitals. (We measure success by the student’s confidence on stage).
  • Adaptive Teaching: Successfully manage and inspire students with diverse learning styles, including neurodivergent learners.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in term observations and professional development. We want you to get better every year you are with us.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of private teaching experience is required.
  • Musical Expertise: Demonstrable mastery in piano performance. A Bachelor’s degree in Music/Education (or higher) is preferred, but we value ability to teach over a piece of paper.
  • Location: Must be able to commute to Laurel, MD 20707.

The Hiring Process

We do not hire based on a resume alone. We use a structured process to ensure we are the right fit for you, and you are the right fit for our students.

  • Initial Interview: In-person or virtual deep-dive into your teaching philosophy.
  • The “Audition”: Successful candidates will perform a paid trial lesson. We want to see you in action.

If you are inspired to work at my Academy, I welcome you to send me your resume directly along with 3-4 sentences on why you would be excited to work here. (Daniel@DanOGuitar.com)
