Position Type: Part-Time

Are you passionate about building strong, positive relationships and empowering individuals with Down syndrome to connect meaningfully with others? Do you have the energy, creativity, and compassion to teach and support adults as they navigate social situations and develop essential life skills? If this sounds like you, we would love to welcome you to our team at Friends of Down Syndrome!

We are a nonprofit organization committed to enriching the lives of adults with Down syndrome by providing a supportive learning environment where they can grow, connect, and thrive. We are currently seeking a Social Skills Teacher who is excited to create an inclusive, engaging, and fun learning environment for our students.

What You’ll Do:

  • Teach social skills to adults with Down syndrome, focusing on real-world scenarios and relationship-building.
  • Use creative teaching methods to help students improve communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to practice and grow.
  • Work with students on developing skills such as active listening, understanding non-verbal cues, and navigating group dynamics.
  • Collaborate with a compassionate, supportive team to ensure students’ individual needs are met.
  • Tailor your teaching approach to each student’s unique learning style, with the flexibility to adjust the curriculum as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Enthusiasm for teaching social skills and building strong, meaningful relationships.
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine interest in supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience or interest in working with individuals with Down syndrome or other developmental disabilities (preferred but not required).
  • Ideal candidates may be studying social work, special education, or psychology, but we welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are a great fit for this role!
  • High energy and creativity, with a commitment to making social learning fun and engaging.
  • A collaborative team player who is eager to contribute to a supportive and inclusive community.

Why You’ll Love This Job:

  • Be part of a close-knit, supportive team that values collaboration and community.
  • Make a real difference in the lives of students by helping them improve essential social skills.
  • Enjoy flexible, part-time hours that allow for a great work-life balance.
  • The opportunity to innovate and tailor your teaching approach to best meet the needs of your students.
  • A fulfilling, rewarding role where you can see the impact of your work as students gain confidence and new skills.

If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact and be a part of an incredible team, we encourage you to apply today! For a faster response time, please email your resume and cover letter to amanda@friendsofdownsyndrome.org. We can’t wait to hear from you and welcome you to our community!
