How do you want to impact today’s world?

Good Shepherd Volunteers (GSV) offers a year of service to college graduates interested in uplifting communities who are working hard to overcome circumstances of violence, poverty and neglect. Volunteers are placed with Good Shepherd agencies serving women, children, and families. GSVs live in community with other volunteers, receive benefits such as housing, health insurance, and a stipend, and learn to live out our 4 Core Tenets: community, spirituality, social justice and simplicity.

We offer positions in advocacy, domestic violence, education, juvenile justice, public policy, and youth counseling and support. Our volunteers work side-by-side with professional advocates, counselors, and educators, gaining a tremendous foundation for their futures. Our volunteers go on to pursue careers in law, data science, education, public advocacy, social work and more. Join us!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Authentic Experiences
Working side-by-side with professional advocates, counselors, and educators, you’ll learn and grow as you accompany individuals and communities through your volunteer responsibilities.
Refine your interests and hone skills that will enrich your current and future aspirations.
Supportive Community
You will be backed by many layers of support:
  • Fellow volunteers, who build a close-knit bond through shared experiences and group retreats
  • Accessible, committed GSV staff, on-site supervisors and community liasions who support your professional and personal growth throughout the year
  • GSV alumni and supporters, who stay involved with the program in various ways
  • The worldwide network of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd
Training & Development
Challenge yourself within a safe and supportive environment.
Begin with a week-long orientation to meet your cohort, gain a deeper understanding of the mission and tenets that will serve as the foundation for your experience, and transition into community life. Development continues across regular cohort activities and four weekend retreats designed to deepen your experience. Each weekend retreat focuses on a single core tenet and is facilitated by experts.
Each placement site offers content-specific professional development, including supervision and training.
Volunteers may also participate in trainings on trauma-informed practice, an MLK Service Day, and events at the United Nations, such as the World Day of the Poor and the Commission on the Status of Women, and more.
Personal Growth
Be challenged and learn to contribute! You will emerge from your journey with an informed awareness of the power of service, a committed motivation to lead and the skills to make a difference.
