Homeward Bound is excited to announce that we are looking for behavioral health technicians for our crisis respite house in Corsicana! Please note that this is only an entry level job. A crisis respite house is designed to be short-term and community-based for those who need direct supervision and care. The individuals served can include those who may have a low risk of harm to themselves or others, some functional impairment, housing challenges, or a need for short-term housing and supervision. We are looking for several individuals who will be able to provide care and constant supervision to these individuals, multitask in a home environment, drive, and facilitate structured activities.
The ideal applicants will be those who have lived experience with a mental health condition, have full-time experience in rehabilitative services, or experience in caring for individuals who are facing barriers with their mental health.
The staff for the house will work in 12-hour shifts for both day and overnight (7:00-7:00) for 3-4 days a week, including weekends.
Duties can include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in the admission process and orient all individuals to the program.
- Cook meals on a rotating basis as well as teach house members to cook and coordinate meal preparation with them.
- Assist in cleaning the home as well as creating chore assignments for house members and following up with them to ensure completion.
- Assist in basic yard work and grounds’ upkeep.
Be willing to handle house members’ basic first aid needs and report any medical and psychiatric needs to the appropriate staff.
- Provide safe transportation to appointments, meetings, activities, and discharge locations.
- Assist in cleaning and monitoring the condition of the house’s vehicle.
- Be a part of the treatment team who secures long-term housing placement for individuals when needed.
- Interact with house members’ families and support systems, other agencies, other Homeward Bound departments, and be a representative of Homeward Bound in the community.
- Facilitate self-administration of medication with all house members.
- Assist in facilitating groups on functional skills such as personal hygiene, nutrition, food preparation, money management, and accessing and participating in community activities.
- Be comfortable dealing with individuals who have experienced significant amounts of trauma and be prepared to assist in verbally de-escalating house members as needed
