Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position in Epidemiology and Human Genetics
An NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow position is available to study the molecular etiology of cardiovascular disease using multi-omics approaches in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.
Job Description:
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to lead research projects and analyze large-scale phenotypic, genomic, and multi-omic data in a collaborative setting. The Yu team is interested in discovering novel molecular biomarkers, identifying biological pathways of cardiopulmonary disease, and understanding the disproportionate disease burden in minorities using multi-omic approaches, in collaboration with population-based cohorts, i.e., the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (ARIC) and large consortium, i.e., the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) consortium, the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program, and the COnsortium of METabolomics Studies (COMETS).
The position is funded for two years, with a possible extension of up to four years. It is Houston-based but available for hybrid work modality – i.e., half-time on campus half remote.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants should hold a PhD, MD, or related degree in medicine, biostatistics, genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, or related fields, and are expected to be fluent in Linux and R.
Additional Desired Experience or Interests:
Other computing languages such as Python are a plus. Prior experience with large-scale biological datasets, multi-omics integration, genome-wide association studies, or machine learning is advantageous but not essential for an otherwise strong candidate.
Salary:
Salary will be based on commensurate experience and NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
How to Apply:
Please send a cover letter with a brief description of your research background and interests, your curriculum vitae (CV), and contact information for three references in a single pdf file and email to: bing.yu@uth.tmc.edu
Please include the subject “Postdoc Fellow Application” in your email.
