We are currently seeking a dynamic, interested, and curious Research Technician within the lab of Dr. Pietro De Camilli at Yale University. The De Camilli Lab studies mechanisms underlying the dynamics and traffic of intracellular membranes, with emphasis on membrane transport reactions involved in neurotransmission. Their work sits at the intersection of fundamental biology and neuroscience, including neurodegenerative diseases, Parkinson’s disease in particular. This role will be integral to the functioning of the lab, and assist the ongoing research support focused on Electron Microscopy (EM) in a laboratory of cell biology and cellular neurobiology. Under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator and other members of the lab, the Research Technician will perform EM analysis (including electron tomography and FIB-SEM) and will participate in the preparation of material for EM observation. Other techniques may include digital light microscopy and tissue culture. We are looking for a self-driven individual who is eager to learn and absorb the nuances of EM work within the De Camilli Lab, and expand on their current skillset. Responsibilities
- Conduct experiments independently after discussion of the plan with supervisor. Interpret experimental results independently and in consultation with supervisor and collaborators in the lab.
- Work with an electron microscope, prepare specimens and sections for light and electron microscopy, observe samples, collect images, store and process them via digital techniques.
- Perform immunolabeling experiments.
- Collect data set using FIB-SEM (Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy)
- Use image analysis programs
- Help with routine functions of the lab in cooperation with other support personnel, such as:
- Maintaining and ordering laboratory reagents and supplies, managing inventories, generating stocks solutions of general use, maintain culture cell lines etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field, or equivalent education
- Prior experience with histology and basic biochemical techniques
- Prior experience with electron microscopy or microscopy preferred
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
- Good organizational and analytical skills, excellent fine motor skills, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow protocols and maintain a detailed laboratory notebook.

- Passion for creating excellent microscopy images
