We are looking for individuals who would like to join our lifesharing community with adults with intellectual disabilities. We have volunteers from around the world who serve as residential volunteers for a minimum of 1 year. Nestled on a 550 acre farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville, Virginia, residential caregivers live in family-style homes where they are responsible for the personal care and daily house management of 3-6 coworkers (adults with disabilities). Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age with maturity, patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor. Some experience with personal care is helpful, but not required. Volunteers receive room and board, health insurance, two consecutive days off per week, and a monthly stipend of $500. Recent college students and/or graduates also have the opportunity to receive school loan deferment during their time as a caregiver. We offer 5-8 positions for U.S. citizens and 1-2 positions if not a U.S. resident per year.
In addition to house life, we all work in various therapeutic workstations. These include the weavery, farm, organic gardens, woodshop, art studio, bakery, and kitchen.
