Research/Fellowship Expires April 12, 2021

ICPD is trying to reach ethnically diverse students for the 2021 Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Programs for Biotechnology (SMDP Biotech) and Medical Technology (SMDP MedTech). Please see the Call For Applicants.

Interested candidates are invited to apply online at http://smdp.icpdprograms.org/. Successful student applicants will receive fellowships to attend one of the programs and virtually all expenses for the one-year SMDP are covered. We are now accepting applications.

Ethnically diverse university students and recent graduates in technical fields are invited to apply (Hispanic Americans, Pacific Islanders, African Americans and American Indians). To qualify, applicants must be interested in a career in biotechnology, medical technology or consumer healthcare industries and seek to receive career mentoring and training from industry leaders.

Both year-long programs begin with a 5-day training session. SMDP Biotech will be June 12-16, 2021, in Boston and SMDP MedTech will be September 25-29, 2021, in Minneapolis. Participants will also attend a major industry conference.

During SMDP, Scholars will be paired with industry mentors to learn about career opportunities in industry and receive career development coaching. As part of the program, Scholars and their mentors create personalized mentoring plans, which they implement over the course of the year following the training session. The mentor-mentee teams communicate regularly by telephone and email, aided by ICPD staff and the internet-based SMDP Mentoring Portal.

Two programs:

SMDP Biotech | Boston JUNE 12-16, 2021: The one-year career mentoring program pairs ethnically diverse graduate students and post-doctoral researchers with industry mentors who work at biotech companies Who may apply? Graduate students and post-doctoral researchers with degrees in life sciences

SMDP MedTech | Minneapolis September 25-29, 2021: The one-year career mentoring program pairs ethnically diverse undergraduate and graduate students with mentors who work at medical device and consumer healthcare diagnostic companies Who may apply? Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors in Engineering, or BS degree, MS degree, Ph.D.

The application deadline for both programs is April 11, 2021

With their mentors, Scholars attend a 5-day training session to learn about career opportunities in the biotech or medtech industry and receive career development coaching, as well as attending the Biotech or MedTech conference.
