Latina Republic, a 501(C)3 California-based nonprofit organization that serves the immigrant community is preparing to launch the ¡Adelante! Virtual Tutoring Program. Through a collaboration with UCLA students our free, virtual tutoring program will provide emotional and academic support to underserved students from elementary school through college. We aim to serve migrant children, foster youth, refugees, immigrant youth, and front-line workers’ children. Our goal is to customize individually tailored weekly sessions to provide support for students affected by disrupted learning due to COVID-19. Our tutoring program is being built in consultation with experts who understand the current academic environment. We are recruiting tutors with a passion for education, diversity and subject matter expertise and we are also looking to partner with school districts, farm worker communities, and organizations that work closely with front line families that need academic support.
Ideal tutors speak Spanish, have prior tutoring experience, including virtual tutoring, have a passion for teaching, have experience tutoring ESL, have empathy and wish to work with underserved student populations, especially migrant students.
We are looking for tutors who can teach across the curriculum. Our students attend 1st grade through community college. Tutors should be able to commit for at least 10 weeks, 2 hours per week.
If you are interested in tutoring for us, please email your resume, a cover letter explaining your prior tutoring experience, your experience with underserved communities and the topics you can tutor. Also, please include your unofficial transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a prior tutoring appointment or an instructor who can describe your ability or potential to teach.
