Minimum qualifications

You must meet one of the following:

  • Six years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools; or
  • Associate’s degree and four years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools; or
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools; or
  • Master’s degree in computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or related field and two years of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools; or
  • Ph. D. in computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or related field and one year of experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools

The Data Analyst 1 will work in the Office of Data Analytics (ODA) under the direction of a supervisor or manager to build business solutions, produce forecasts, and answer questions across all areas of the Department of Taxation and Finance. Examples of projects include fraud detection, revenue forecasting at the micro and macro level, and analysis of program performance.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Prepare data for analysis and reporting using data wrangling techniques (joining, merging, stacking, cleansing, transposing, aggregating, transforming, etc.).
• Create and maintain data dictionaries and specifications documents.
• Produce and interpret univariate analyses to identify patterns, outliers, and errors in data.
• Perform multivariate analyses using correlations, regression analysis (linear, nonlinear, tree, etc.), and multidimensional graphical techniques.
• Develop basic predictive models and assess the results to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
• Summarize and present analytical results using tables, graphs, dashboards, fact sheets, and written reports.
• Write clear and concise results summaries for policy, business, and technical audiences.
• Maintain knowledge of the Department’s data sets and data storage areas.
• Assist in the systems management, data management, and testing of systems used for analysis; develop scripts and data pipelines to automate these tasks.
• Comply with Office of Human Resources Management, Affirmative Action, Code of Conduct, Ethics, and Internal Control policies and procedures.
• Adhere to Department’s time and attendance rules and regulations.
