NCPIRG Students Campus Organizer at UNC Chapel HillNCPIRG Students, or North Carolina Public Interest Research Group for Students, is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that recruits, trains and organizes students on college campuses across NC on issues they care about. We run grassroots campaigns on issues like protecting the environment, getting out the youth vote, making college more affordable and more in order to create the cleaner, healthier, and more meaningful future our generation wants to see.Since 2014, we have trained over 5,000 students throughout NC. Our work has helped build a culture around civic engagement on college campuses by making 250,0000 personal reminder contacts and increasing turnout among young people and institutionalizing voter registration on campuses during presidential, midterm and local elections.We are hiring a campus organizer for our chapter at UNC Chapel Hill to help students build off the momentum of the 2020 Elections and organize campaigns like banning single use plastics, making textbooks more affordable and more.As a Campus Organizer with NCPIRG Students at UNC Chapel Hill, your responsibilities will include:Inspiring and recruiting hundreds of students to take action on our lead campaign to ban single use plastics on campus.Helping students run strategic campaigns — campus organizers will recruit and train students virtually to run campaigns like calling on Whole Foods to eliminate wasteful packaging, make textbooks more affordable, and to alleviate hunger and homelessness in NC.Building a coalition — campus organizers work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations and people.Training students to be effective social change leaders, using skills such as generating grassroots support and coordinating (virtual) lobby days and news conferences.Building a strong, sustainable, student-run organization on campus by fundraising, building relationships with key players on campus and building our brand.Working alongside students to win real reforms for the public.Using a variety of digital tools to conduct this work virtually while in-person gathering is restricted by COVID-19.Running a citizen outreach office during the summer, where you’ll recruit and lead a team of canvassers to fundraise for important issues.
