Internship Expires January 31, 2021

What is Arts Intern?

The Arts Intern program’s driving goal is to match skilled college students with paid internships in museums and organizations. These internships are crafted to provide interns with meaningful tasks and responsibilities that make them an active part of the departments and organizations that host them, resulting in valuable career experiences. The program seeks candidates with demonstrated financial need and encourages applicants from diverse cultural backgrounds.

What do Arts Intern do?

Coming from many different backgrounds, Arts Interns bring their unique voices to arts and cultural organizations. Among other things, Arts Interns prepare exhibits, provide content for installations, and build and organize events for the community at large. Positions are offered in different departments across a wide array of museums and cultural institutions.

Internships will be predominately remote, and take place over 27 working days, and are paid $15.00 per hour. Arts Interns are employees of their host institutions and therefore subject to all employment taxes in compliance with local laws.

In addition to working in their host institution, Arts Interns spend one day each week participating in unique educational programming. These days are also used to complete program assignments. By the end of the summer, Arts Interns complete:

  • short, weekly program logs that track their hours
  • a mid-program report on their internship progress
  • a final report on their full internship experience
  • an end-of-program presentation to their intern cohort, museum professionals, and program administrators

All of these components are required, and interns must be available for the full duration of the program. Upon completion of the above, interns receive a $500 stipend from Studio Institute.

How are Arts Intern selected?

Applying to Arts Intern is a two-step process. After identifying a position in which they are interested, applicants must first complete a brief eligibility survey and upload the required documents. Once this application is reviewed and approved by Arts Intern staff, applicants forward the confirmation email to the contact listed for their desired position. From that point, the organization hosting the position will make decisions regarding interviewing and hiring.

Eligibility Requirements:

1) Students must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate junior or senior in Spring 2021.

2) Students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of less than $5,000. This number is on the Student Aid Report on the FAFSA form. To see what it looks like, click here.

3) Students must meet the residency requirements. These are different for each of Arts Intern’s eight cities. To view the eligibility requirements, please see the instructions on how to apply at the bottom of each position in each respective city.

Thank you for your interest in Arts Intern. We hope to work with you this summer!
