This position is for undergraduates who would like more experience working with the special needs population ages 3-26yrs. This position is one designed for an undergraduate who will be with our sites for 3 or more months (equivalent to a semester). Typically this position is designed for those wanting an in depth experience and is quite hands on.Those applying for this position should recognize that UTH has 2 sites and based on your number of needed hours may need to be available to drive to both the Frisco and the Denton location. All programs are on the following days: Thursday evenings, Friday evenings, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. Those individuals with the most flexibility will more easily accommodated.You may also be asked to work with our Transitional Housing young adults and that is all located in the Denton area. Some of the work is going to be remote due to COVID restrictions and also the needs of our clients. www.unitedthroughhope.org has an overview of all programs that an individual may be involved in.The volunteer will be present at our site at least 8-12 hours per week (depending on their own program requirements) plus will need to be willing to read their emails to be prepared for the group lesson each week. Volunteers who succeed in this position are reliable, punctual, enjoy children & have an even temperament, and great communication. This position is for those individuals who are good at taking initiative and thinking ahead.Training in disabilities and the program will be provided. Due to the nature of our clientele, a resume and a volunteer form will be required to be completed for this position as well as an observation at our site during the program will be required before a commitment can be made. This position can be a volunteer position or used for class credit, practicum, or internship.
