Research/Fellowship Expires February 1, 2021

The Oskowitz lab the University of California San Francisco is seeking an independent and creative researcher for a post-doctoral fellowship position to develop cell-based, immune modulating therapeutics for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Specifically, the Oskowitz lab is focused on genome editing and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) based technology to direct cells to areas of vascular injury in order to develop novel therapeutics. This endeavor is both high risk and high reward, with the potential to lead to a paradigm shift in the way we approach the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Our lab spans the translational spectrum of research performing molecular and in vitro benchtop work as well as using animal models of cardiovascular disease and clinical research to pursue our goals. We are funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Heart Association (AHA). To add relevant expertise to our lab, we are seeking highly motivated scientists with an interest in immunotherapy and the desire to contribute to a collaborative and fast paced research environment.

In collaboration with the PI (Dr. Adam Oskowitz) and other senior scientists in the lab the applicant will focus on one of the following two projects.

Project 1: Cell Based Immunotherapy for Atherosclerosis. You will lead efforts to use genome editing and CAR technology to enhance the ability of T-regulatory cells to oppose atherosclerosis while also studying the Treg-switch hypothesis of atherosclerosis progression.

Project 2: Targeted Cellular Therapy for Aortic Aneurysms. You will lead efforts to use genome editing and CAR technology to enhance the ability of T-regulatory cells to slow or reverse the growth of aortic aneurysms, while also studying the basic biology of T-regulatory cells in aneurysm development.

Required qualifications:

o Ph.D. in immunology, cell or molecular biology, a cardiovascular or other applicable field.

o Experience with T-cell signaling or CAR technology

o Experience with cell/molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (e.g. cell cultures of mammalian cells, molecular cloning, transfection/transduction, protein purification, western blotting, PCR, immunofluorescence, microscopy and cell imaging).

o Record of publication in peer-reviewed journal(s).

o Ability to independently design and execute experiments, interpret data, and identify appropriate follow-up strategies.

o Highly motivated, curious and detail-oriented scientist.

o Ready to engage in a fast-paced growing lab environment

Preferred qualifications:

o Experience with antibody biochemistry

o Expertise with T-regulatory cells or T-cells.

o Experience in Cardiovascular Science

o Experience with animal models of cardiovascular disease, including micro-surgery, cell injection and tissue harvest

o In vivo imaging techniques in small animals

.
