Student Success Story: Daisy Guerrero

My experience with the Urban Fellows Program has helped me strengthen and develop new social work skills. My internship was in a school district where I served homeless and newcomer students. We would get referrals from counselors or school staff to meet with students who might qualify for our programs. I was amazed at how resilient those students were in face of adversity. I was also impressed by how school staff collaborated with each other to ensure that students received the necessary services. I helped connect families to resources and advocated for their rights. I cannot wait to graduate and start working in the school setting to help students and their families overcome hardship.  -Daisy Guerrero
