The Department of Chemistry and Physics at UTC is seeking a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for General Chemistry courses for the Fall semester!
We need someone interested in a faculty career at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution (PUI). You will gain experience teaching undergraduate students and receive mentoring from an experienced PUI faculty member.

We have two (2) openings for General Chemistry lecturers, one for CHEM 1110 General Chemistry 1 and one for CHEM 1120 General Chemistry 2. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare class lectures and course assignments, grade weekly in-class activities, meet with students outside of class during office hours, and maintain the course Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. The GTA will be trained in FERPA by UTC and will be expected to follow the University rules and policies for maintaining student confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Full-time enrollment (minimum 9 semester hours towards graduate degree)
- At least 18 graduate credits in science and/or math
- Excellent grades in undergraduate chemistry classes (A or B)
- Computer data entry skills
- Reliability and discretion
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to work independently
Full-time GTA position for one semester: 20 hours per week teaching and grading
Compensation: Tuition cover and maintenance fee waiver plus stipend (monthly payroll)
Position period: August 19, 2024 – Dec 16, 2024; renewable for subsequent semesters
