LinkedIn Learning is an online learning tool that allows you to take video courses and connects with your LinkedIn profile to showcase the skills you have learned through completion certificates. As a TWU student, you have FREE access to this tool! Did I mention that it was FREE? If you are unsure how to get started with accessing your LinkedIn Learning account, I would suggest looking at this article put together by the Technology Service team.
There are a variety of topics and skills that you can develop through LinkedIn Learning. For example, let’s say that I am looking for an entry-level position, but notice that many of the positions require at least an intermediate level of Excel, a data management program. However, the problem is that I have not used Excel that much at all up until now. I can use LinkedIn Learning to take courses that walk me through the beginner and intermediate skill sets needed within Excel.
This can be applied not just to technological skills within programs like Microsoft Office or Adobe Suite, but also to develop the soft skills that many employers are seeking within applicants. Skills like how to prioritize and manage multiple projects, maximizing the team you lead, or how to more effectively communicate with others in a professional setting. As I mentioned earlier, there are a wide variety of videos and topics. It has a little bit of everything and I would encourage you to explore all different areas.
I’ve even used LinkedIn Learning myself to help supplement my own learning in various areas of career development and services. You can learn at your own pace, take part in your learning through the provided exercise files, and even link your certificates of completion directly to your LinkedIn profile.
Now is a great time to take advantage of this free resource and continue to build your skills!
