Dear Career Consultant…

I don’t technically meet all the requirements listed in the job description. Should I skip out on the application?

Dear student…

Always, always, always apply for a job even if you do not meet all of the qualification requirements.

Remember that professional experience does not always mean full-time experience. Part-time jobs, internships, volunteer work, all of that can add up to the time requirements they are looking for.

My advice is to take a look at the job description, focus on the skills you have, and highlight them on your resume.

You never know what the applicant pool looks like. You could be the most qualified applicant even if you do not meet all of the requirements.

If you need help tailoring your resume make sure to schedule an appointment with your career consultant or check out JobScan – Upload your resume, upload the job description, and edit it based on the results!
