Student Success Story: Jasmine Oyewumi

I really enjoyed spending my spring semester taking on this internship experience. I am very appreciative of Urban Fellows for allowing me to get this great opportunity. For the most part, my internship consisted of being online and utilizing zoom. This was one of my first experiences interning online and I actually enjoyed it. It’s different not having that in-person face-to-face interaction but through video calls, it still worked out. Each week consisted of a regular one-on-one session with my instructor, going over what I would be working on this week and questions that I may have, watching training videos, and learning more about the organization. I really enjoyed that there was a lot of variety of tasks that I would work on. Each week it would be something different which made the internship exciting and ready to take on the next challenge. Within a short period of time, I really felt like I was a part of the company and I totally was all for the mission and cause that the Unit is striving towards. I feel that a lot of organizations can learn from Unite on how to help individuals in critical times. Overall this internship was a great experience during the spring semester. I now have valuable experience under my belt. I know this will help when looking for jobs and needing references. I developed enhanced knowledge that I will take with me throughout the remainder of my classes and into my future career. I met great individuals and developed friendships with other interns. I received a mentor that could provide guidance as I embark on these next stages of career growth.
