As the Information Technology branch chief and technology lead for our department, this position manages and provides leadership to the IT branch and for all IT program strategic plans and initiatives, operations, resources, expenditures, and multi-agency enterprise project collaboration, ensuring synchronicity with business objectives. This position plans, coordinates, communicates, and manages all aspects of IT for the agency including projects, systems, and information provided to other agencies and appointed / elected officials; and manages a staff of IT and GIS professionals; performs and coordinates all IT support and related work as required.

Note: The starting salary for this position generally will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range.

In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance are subject to supervisor approval and county policy.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or closely related field; plus five years’ experience in systems design, development, and maintenance in a large information systems environment, including supervisory experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with:
    • Managing and supervising staff and related personnel functions.
    • Performing planning and implementation for software and hardware including budgeting.
    • Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and standards for IT systems.
    • Long range system planning, development of work plans, schedules, priorities and standards.
    • IT support for planning, zoning or related public sector work.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate complex systems and analytical concepts to both technical and non-technical staff and leadership effectively and clearly.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and to work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires some walking, standing, bending, crawling and carrying items of 15 pounds or more in weight. Work requires the ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
